RCG Announces Recipient of its 2010 Charitable Gift Fund
As a real estate investment, development and property management firm with assets located in communities throughout the Greater Boston area, RCG understands how important the contributions of locally based charities are to the fabric of a neighborhood.
In recognition of the often under-appreciated work undertaken by the management team, board of directors, staff and volunteers of this organization, RCG has selected Lynn Economic Opportunity, Inc. (leocaa.org) (“LEO”) as the sole recipient of the annual gift from the employee charity fund. In particular, we have been impressed by the breadth and quality of LEO’s programs. Ranging from language assistance to help with paying utility bills or replacing appliances, the programs offered by LEO are dedicated to making a difference in all aspects of the lives of Lynn residents in need. RCG has witnessed first-hand the difference this group has made and we applaud their efforts.
We at RCG consider ourselves fortunate to be able to contribute to this deserving organization and wish them well for continued success in accomplishing their mission. -

State of Emergency: MA Water Main Break Requires Boil Water Order
Governor Deval Patrick has declared a state of emergency to facilitate the state response to an MWRA Water Main Break. A "Boil Water" Order is in effect for the impacted communities. Water service to all Massachusetts Water Resource Authority (MWRA) customer communities east of Weston has been interrupted by a major water pipe break in Weston. Due to this break, A BOIL WATER ORDER IS BEING ISSUED FOR DRINKING WATER FOR ALL MWRA COMMUNITIES EAST OF WESTON UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. In addition, emergency water conservation measures are being implemented for all impacted communities. Water should be rapidly boiled for at least 1 minute. MWRA is activating its emergency water supplies such as the Sudbury Aqueduct, Chestnut Hill Resevoir and Spot Pond Reservoir. THIS WATER WILL NOT BE SUITABLE FOR DRINKING, but can be used for bathing, flushing and fire protection. The leak is located at the location where the MetroWest Water Supply Tunnel meets the City Tunnel on Recreation Road. This 120-inch diameter pipe transports water to our communities east of Weston - as far north as Wilmington and south to Stoughton. Water is leaking into the Charles River at aa rate of over 8 million gallons an hour. MWRA crews are on site, engineers are assessing the situation to determine next steps. Updates will be posted on Mass.gov and MWRA's website at www.mwra.com throughout the event. People can also call Mass 211. Art from the East Mill
What do you get when you give 24 artists the same photograph and ask them each to create a painting? You get 27 paintings, everyone of them pretty much the same view and yet so very different -- some boldly abstract and others a near re-creation of the photograph itself.
Join us Thursday April 29th from 5 to 8 p.m. at a gallery reception celebrating the opening of "Art from the East Mill."
The 27 paintings on display all have been inspired by Davis & Furber's East Mill. The gallery is inside the main East Mill lobby at 21 High St., North Andover, Massachusetts 01845 in North Andover's downtown. The exhibit will run through Memorial Day, Monday, May 31 (Click here to see the event poster for a good visual of what's in store).
The artists hail from across the Merrimack Valley and North Shore with one entry from Maine. Most are members of the Andovers Artist Guild, the co-sponsoring organization.
The exhibit was the brainchild of Nella Lush, the president of the Andovers Artist Guild and an artist from North Andover. The artist guild is working with East Mill developer David Steinbergh to develop artist studio work space, a gallery, and teaching classroom to compliment the office, light industrial, office, restaurants, and residential apartments which now make their home in the Davis & Furber complex in North Andover's downtown.
Lush suggested the art show as a prelude to the establishment of an art community at East Mill. "The entries are beyond my wildest dreams," Lush said. "There is so much talent represented here."
The Davis & Furber Machine Co. was once the leading manufacturer of machinery for the textile industry. The company opened in North Andover in 1832 and 1982.
The East Mill is located at the intersection of Water St., High St. and Water St. in North Andover's downtown. The "Art from the East Mill" gallery will be open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and weekends by appointment. For information call Gallery Director Caroline Cole at 978-237-5972. -

RCG Announces Recipients of its Charitable Gift Fund
As a real estate investment, development and property management firm with assets located in communities throughout the Greater Boston area, RCG understands how important the contributions of locally based charities are to the fabric of a neighborhood. In particular, homeless shelters and food pantries are vital to the well-being of so many people. That’s why RCG recently selected five very deserving organizations that provide essential services to their communities as recipients of donations from its employee’s charitable gift fund. These organizations include both some of the largest organizations in the area as well as very locally-focused non-profit groups. RCG has been impressed by each group’s commitment to serving the members of its respective community and the active steps each organization takes to accomplishing its mission. Each recipient is located in a community in which RCG operates, and we have witnessed the benefits of the programs these organizations provide.
This year’s recipients are:
1) The Salem Mission located at 56 Margin Street in Salem MA, which provides a number of services to homeless men and women on the north shore.
2) My Brother's Table located 98 Willow Street in Lynn, MA is a privately run food bank that serves more than 200 individuals 365 days a year.

Changes underway at the Lydia Pinkham Building
There has been a lot of talk about change over the past few months. That change is not limited to Washington. A historic Lynn landmark is undergoing a major makeover just in time for spring. Change is underway at the Lydia Pinkham Building and new tenants have arrived to reap the rewards of the historic building’s latest revival.
Whenever one door closes, another opens. Such is the case at the Lydia Pinkham Building, from where TDF Metal Workshop recently vacated to a new building in Danvers. The basement space that TDF previously occupied has been renovated into thirteen subdivided spaces ideal for contractors, small businesses, and people looking for affordable office or artist space. Four of these spaces were rented prior to the completion of construction, which is expected in late March, 2009.
Located at 271 Western Avenue, the Pinkham Building has been around since the late 1880’s when Lydia herself concocted the potions that put her at the forefront of late 19th century medicine.
Today, it’s the many small businesses and artists who are concocting a variety of wares within the red brick walls. With more than 70 artisans and craftsmen, the historic Lydia Pinkham Building has grown into a true community for all types of creative users. Since the start of the year, the Pinkham building has already opened it doors to eight new tenants including Riley Parker Design, a restaurant lighting and casework design firm, Dogwood Floral Design, a wedding & event floral design studio, and Perez Massage Therapy to name a few. There are several pending deals in the pipeline as well.
The historic building has become one of the fastest growing artist and small business communities in the area.
There are often unique spaces available at affordable rates .. The property is managed by RCG, which recently opened a satellite office on the first floor in the building .
